About Clancy Care Counselling

I became a counsellor because I want to help you reduce your levels of anxiety. I was born and lived seven miles from Belfast, in the height of The Troubles, stress and anxiety were unknown natural states of mind for me.

I started working as a care worker in a nursing home when I was nineteen. I previously worked for the National Health Service in County Antrim and Scotland. I eventually trained to be a general adult staff nurse. I enjoyed getting to know patients. I gave up nursing because I worked in an environment that caused me stress and anxiety and having not dealt with my underlining stress and anxiety I became overwhelmed. Going for therapy empowered me, and I set out on my journey to train as a counsellor/psychotherapist.

I have discovered through personal therapy and my training techniques such as mindfulness, self-compassion and taking care of myself which have resulted in my being comfortable in my own skin. Therapy can provide the space to empower you.

First Visit

When you initially visit me in the therapy room, I will explain to you how I work as a counsellor and what you should expect.  The session is to see if you would like to work with me on an ongoing basis.  Therapy can be hard work, and it is important for you to feel comfortable.

I will ask you to tell me a little about yourself, so I can gain an understanding of where you are in your life.
